Monster Makers Workshop.
This summer I worked with the Aspex Gallery - helping to devise and deliver a workshop for their marquee in the kids arena at Victorious Festival in Portsmouth. I developed a workshop where children could come in and construct their own mythical/ monster creation - in connection to a project created by Matt Westbrook all about mythical creatures (which happened in another area of the festival).
I created 'Monster Makers' - which I pitched as being a giant 'pick + mix' of monster body bits. Children and their parents could come to the tent; pick out their own selection of body parts that I'd illustrated from giant bins - then paint, colour and stick whatever designs they wanted to create their own individual monster.
Over the course of the weekend of the 27th & 28th of August, we had almost 800 children and parents turn up to the Monster Maker tent! There were A LOT of monsters made - to the point where we were rinsed dry of monster bits come Sunday evening! It was a great weekend and I was so amazed at how every child made every monster very different & really special.
